Tips for writing a barista resume
Show speed and volume
Drinks per shift, guests per day and ticket times show a cafe manager you can keep up during the morning rush. Use numbers from your POS or order screen if you can see them, or estimate carefully from typical shifts.
Name your coffee skills specifically
'Made coffee' does not say much. List skills like dialing in espresso, milk texturing, latte art, pour-over and batch brew recipes. If you have worked on a specific type of espresso machine or grinder, mention it.
Include sales and loyalty results
Retail bean sales, pastry add-ons, loyalty sign-ups and catering orders show you help the cafe earn money. One number here can set you apart from other applicants.
List food safety and coffee training
Some states and counties require a food handler card. Oregon, for example, requires food service workers to get one within 30 days of starting work. Add coffee training like Specialty Coffee Association courses if you have them, and list each card or course with the issuer.
Applying to a chain cafe? Match the posting
Large coffee chains publish job descriptions and values on their careers sites. Mirror the skills they list in your summary and bullets, and practice with a matching interview quiz before you meet the manager.
No experience? Use transferable work
Retail, fast food, volunteering and school events all build speed, cash handling and customer service. Describe them with numbers like customers served per shift, and say you are eager to learn espresso. The no experience summary on this page is a good model.
