How Virginia taxes your paycheck

Virginia applies one rate schedule to every filing status: 2% up to $3,000, 3% to $5,000, 5% to $17,000 and 5.75% above. The 2025 General Assembly raised the standard deduction to $8,750 single / $17,500 joint for 2025 and 2026. The 2026 Appropriation Act (HB 30, Special Session I) left 2026 unchanged and raises the deduction to $9,200/$18,400 for 2027 and $9,300/$18,600 for 2028-2029. Virginia has no head-of-household schedule (those filers use the single amounts), and the personal exemption is $930 per person.
