How Utah taxes your paycheck
Utah taxes all income at one flat rate with no standard deduction or personal exemption. S.B. 60 (2026), signed March 23, 2026, cut the rate from 4.5% to 4.45% retroactive to January 1, 2026, and the Tax Commission revised its withholding formula for pay periods from June 1, 2026. Instead of a deduction, filers get a nonrefundable taxpayer tax credit equal to 6% of the federal standard deduction (or itemized deductions less state income tax) plus dependent exemptions; the encoded credit is 6% of the 2026 federal standard deduction for the filer only.
