Increases with the amount still to be set

These states adjust on a fixed date by formula, usually inflation, but had not published the new amount when we last checked on October 21, 2026.

  • Vermont (January 1, 2027): Adjusted each January 1 by inflation, capped at 5 percent. As of October 21, 2026, the Vermont Department of Labor's minimum wage page still listed only the $14.42 rate effective January 1, 2026, so the 2027 amount had not been posted yet.
  • District of Columbia (July 1, 2027): Both the full and tipped rates are adjusted for inflation each July 1, with the next change due July 1, 2027.
  • Oregon (July 1, 2027): The state sets the July 1, 2027 rates by April 30, 2027 based on inflation.
  • Florida (January 1, 2028): The $15.00 rate stays in place through 2027; the first inflation adjustment is calculated on September 30, 2027 and takes effect January 1, 2028.

States with no increase scheduled

20 states pay the federal minimum of $7.25 to most workers, either because they have no minimum wage law of their own or because their rate is at or below the federal one: Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, Wyoming. Nothing changes there unless Congress raises the federal rate.

These states set their own higher minimum but have no increase on the calendar: Arkansas, Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, West Virginia.

  • Arkansas: No further increase is scheduled under current state law.
  • Delaware: No further increase is scheduled under current state law.
  • Illinois: No further increase is scheduled under current state law.
  • Maryland: No further increase is scheduled under current state law.
  • Massachusetts: No further increase is scheduled under current state law.
  • Missouri: No increase is scheduled because a 2025 law repealed the annual inflation adjustments Proposition A had set to begin in 2027.
  • Nevada: No increase is scheduled; Nevada's constitution keeps the rate at $12.00 unless the federal minimum wage rises above it.
  • New Mexico: No further increase is scheduled under current state law.
  • New York: There is no inflation increase on January 1, 2027 because a state off ramp was triggered; Governor Hochul has proposed raising rates to $17.60 and $16.55 on March 1, 2027 if lawmakers approve.
  • West Virginia: No further increase is scheduled under current state law.

How state minimum wage increases work

States raise their minimum wage in two ways. Some write a schedule into law, such as Virginia's step to $15.00 in 2028. Others tie the rate to inflation, so the labor department announces a new figure each fall for the following January. A few states use both: a schedule until a target, then yearly inflation adjustments.

Cities and counties can set higher minimums of their own, and many also adjust on January 1 or July 1. Your employer must pay whichever rate is highest where you work, so check your state page for local rates. Where a state ties the tipped cash wage to the full minimum, as a percentage or a fixed tip credit, the tipped wage rises on the same day. States that use the $2.13 federal cash wage leave it unchanged.
